Social service agencies: brace yourself. Homeless shelters...I know you're already out of beds, but more are on their way. How callous we are as a society that we deny the unemployed an extension given now troubled the job market is right now. We can't afford not to extend unemployment benefits. We can't afford the increase in homelessness, mortgage default, welfare...the list goes on and on. And we can't afford to live as though what happens to those who are down and out only affect the down and out. We are contributing to our own societal demise.
